Providing accommodations

All University entities are required to provide reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities attempting to access communications or services using technology. All university communications and services must contain a statement, or link to a statement, that allows users to connect quickly with the responsible parties within the unit who can provide the information or services in an accessible format in a timely way.

Examples:

  • A person who is blind and uses a screen reader cannot access your website because your site does not have accessible features. To provide access, you may need to copy and paste the text from the website into a word document and email the document to a person so that they can access the content.
  • Your website contains many images that do not have alternate tags. To provide access, you can provide text descriptions of the images upon request.

Who should be listed as the contact person for accommodations?

The best contact person is someone within your Department or Division who would be able to quickly respond to requests for materials in accessible formats. You may also use your departmental email address, if it is monitored on a daily basis by persons who would be able to respond to this request.

Recommended Accommodation Statement

“MU is committed to providing access and accommodations for people with disabilities. If you need accommodations due to disability to access the content on this website, please [insert phone number and email of contact person] for assistance.”
